Haaretz Service: Fayyad: Jews can be equal citizens in Palestinian state

Fayyad has a pragmatic, pluralistic vision for defiant settlers who may hold the Land of Israel to be of higher imporantance than the State of Israel. I pray his countrymen would be willing to accept Jews as equals in their midst. But based on the historical record of defenseless civilian Jews being slaughtered in Hebron in 1929, Palestinian desacration of Joseph`s Tomb in Nablus in 2000, Jordanian barring of Jewish residence in the Old City during its 19 year occupation of it, and the current Jew-hating discourse prevelant in religious and political discussions in Palestine, I am and am sure the vast majority of Jews have ever reason to be skeptical about such a plan`s viability.
Not to mention a rising Muslim Arab intolerance of anyone not their religion in the Middle East-i.e. Copts in Egypt, southern Sudanese, Bahais across the region, and tiny remaining Jewish communities in Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon.
