| Shouldn`t the border between Syria and Lebanon be nailed down via a bilateral agreement between those two countries? At least that`s what the international community is always screaming about with respect to Israel and the Palestinian Territories. Syria didn`t even have diplomatic relations with Lebanon prior to late last year; before that, Syria considered all of Lebanon to be a province of "Greater Syria". So now what happens if Syria comes back and says that the Shebaa Farms is ours and Lebanon continues to insist that it is theirs? The U.S, and Saudi Arabia must be trying to get Syria to officially renounce her claims to the Shebaa Farms in favor of Lebanon in order to force Israel to withdraw from it in accordance with UNSCRs to that effect. If Syria does not renounce her claim, then Israel gets to stay at least until the Israeli-Syrian Peace Agreement determines their mutual border. |
