| Much of this is true. Israelis are not Anglos, Anglos are terribly anal when it comes to "good manners", which is important in producing an ordered society. I too am flustered by the non-anglo disregard for social rules and order. But...I am reminded of a trip to Canada last year with my daughter. We were waiting at the ferry for friends, before embarking on a short journey to Center Island. My friends, Israelis, were late. So I waited at the side. The line ups were long, and I watched them slowly meander toward their goal, the ticket gate. What was interesting and funny and very Anglo was that after fifteen minutes I realized that a line had formed behind me. Yes a line of some hundred folks, who seemed to have been looking to join a line any line. It made me laugh, when I had to inform the masses that I am just waiting, & am not the front of any line. I could hear the baaahing as the sheep suddenly bemused sought a real line to join. |
