Smadar, Ben Gurion was speaking in the early 1960s. This was only 15 years after he had to put down what was close to an rightist coup in the Altalena affair. It must be noted that the Irgun, and the Reformists Zionists which it was the private army of, were closely related to the Italian Fascist movement. Ben Gurion`s distaste for the Revisionists led him to frequent remarks about "Vladimir Hiter` (Jabotinsky), and "German Revisionists" (Nazis) in the 1930s.
A particular hatred of Ben Gurion`s was for Jabotinsky`s side-kick Abba Ahimeir, author of the Doar HaYom column, "From the Notebook of a Fascist," and who organized the union-busting activities aimed at the Labor Zionists.
Ben Gurion also changed over time. He too softened towards Begin. |
