| Mark, North Korea is no threat to Alaska or Hawaii. There is a big dispute going on over whether to terminate the current less than successful Ballistic Missile Defense. There is also a debate going on over whether the current Army or Navy systems are best for tactical missile defenses. Thus everyone is grasping at every straw they can to get their system in the news - and Gates is trying to undercut the republican efforts to use the mythical `threat`. Thus all the ballyhoo. The bottom line is that even the satellite launch vehicle which has failed at every test could barely reach French Frigate Shoals, Hawaii, or Shemya Island in the Aleutians with a military payload. Which is to say there is NO threat to any US state. Just hype for political or budgetary gain. |
