I spoke to one of the oldtimers in my town who said that the Irgun dropped off some weapons along the Herzliya coast for the Hagana on its way to Tel Aviv, part of an agreement they made with them to share the materiel. Then . . . the Provisional government decided the Irgun shouldn`t have what they earned and the rest is history.

For the record, B-G usually turned a blind eye to the latter day Yevseks in his coterie until one of the M`talplim got enthusiastic with some Yemenite immigrants which lead to establishment of the Mamlachti and Dati-Mamlachti school systems in 1953. And yes, Virginia, B-G knew about the the efforts of the Eugnicists to "improve" the chances of Yemenite children by kidnapping them from their parents.

Begin was offered "assistance" to eliminate the demonstrators who opposed the Israeli presence there. Begin refused it, saying they had a right to protest. Compare that with Rabin`s approach to the "enemies of Peace".
