| What happened between the two letters (`63 and `69), was, of course, the Six-Day War. Begin`s number one goal since the founding of the Israeli state had always been annexation of the West Bank ("Judea and Samaria"). The `67 war, carried out by Ben Gurion`s *moderates* brought about the possibility of annexation. By 1969, it was clear to Ben Gurion that Israel would get away with it. But in reality, Israel has swallowed a poison pill. |
