By Anshel Pfeffer, Haaretz Correspondent: IDF chief rabbi says women shouldn't serve

Title:He should have been sacked after Gaza

He shoudl have been sacked following his outrageous behavior during operation cast lead. People heard him say that women should not serve and he then denied it. So the person who is theoretically, although we saw in cast lead that the opposite is the truth, is responsible for morality in the army is either lying in which case he should be fired, or he did say it in which case he should be fired.

The army needs women soldiers, both for the needs of the army and also because it engages our youth, it gives them an opportunity to contribute to our state. The real question is does the army need a rabbinate, which sees its role note so much as providing religious services for those who require them, as imposing them on the rest of the army which does not.
