| There is no strategic mission for Israel`s Dolphin subs sailing near Iranian waters that can`t be done better from Israeli coastal waters, which are 1000 miles from Tehran, the same distance a cruise missile would have to travel if fired from the Gulf of Oman near Bandar Abbas. Plus missile-carrying subs can be protected from interference far better near Israel by IDF aircraft and missile boats. Best deterrence is to base nuclear-armed cruse missile subs near Israel, and assure range capability equal to US Tomahawks, not operate boats at outer limits of operational range, requiring vulnerable ship-ship refueling near Yemen. More logical use of Israeli subs in Red Sea is to stop any interference with Israeli shipping by Iranian warships and subs operating near the Somali coast. No need to operate in the Indian Ocean/Arabian Sea unless target is nuclear-armed Pakistan (which could happen). Relying on IDF subs transiting Suez Canal in time of crisis would be idiotic in the extreme. |
