| It all depends how long Israel wants to look sadistic. Israel can `mull` all it wants, but blowing up folks houses and then keeping them from getting building supplies to rebuild seems very petty. Restricting food and medicine is also the kind of act decent nations don`t wish to be associated with. Israel is the legal occupying authority. As such it has the right to control Gaza`s border, seacoast, ports and airspace. Thus it may close the borders as long as it wants. But Israel might well benefit more by acting decent and civilized than pursuing it`s current course of action. In the past, while there was still a significant `liberal` presence and press in Israel this point would have been made. There probably would have been major demonstrations. But Israel is a nation totally dominated by the extreme right. Alas, the extreme right loves hurting those it doesn`t like so much that it does not consider the consequences. |
