By Yoav Stern: For some Israeli Bedouin, border smuggling is a way of life
Talkback
Title:Israeli Bedouin , on smuggling.
Name:Stephen.
City: Geneve.State: Switzerland
Our Bedouin cousins have always been intrepid smugglers and some were even more daring.
Many years ago, before 1967, when our unit used to parachute,on what is called night jumps into the desert, the Bedouin were not far off.
Many a parachute was "collected", by these fellows, sometimes we would visit one of their camps and find our French made parachute silk, covering their tent like homes.
However, that is really small talk, what is important is the role they have played as trackers for the IDF.
Also they have shown extreme bravery in the face of the enemy.
Our Israeli Bedouin are the true desert people.
Smuggling is a way of life, best suited for their nomadic lifestyle.
