For a long time Israel has enjoyed the support of US presidents (and a legislative branch) that have been very strongly pro-Israel. Mainly this support has been bought and paid for by the immense Jewish lobby industry in Washington. This state of affairs has caused enormous problems for the US in the rest of the Middle-East.
It is about time a President put the reputation of his own country before that of Israel. A more even-handed approach in the region might be to the detriment of Israel, but will ultimately improve world security overall. |
