Arab countries would agree to turn Israel into a Muslim state in a millisecond. Many Western Countries, clearly with a strong Christian majority, offer a constitutional platform that does not define its countries` character by religion (although they are clearly Christian). But both of these possibilities do not suit the needs for Israel.
This tiny dot on the earth called Israel is the ONLY Jewish State, and for 3000 years we have made claim to this central defining point. Some Jews and Israelis unfortunately have become detached from this reality, and do not realize that the DESIRE to keep Israel as a Jewish State is the central core to our religion, and if it is severed, so too will be Judaism.
As was written in the Psalms so eloquently:
If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand wither, let my tongue cleave to my palate if I do not remember you, if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy. |
