By maintaining ambiguity over the existence of Israels nuclear arsenal, Israel can benefit from the deterrent value of such an arsenal while not being encumbered by the arsenal as an "officially acknowledged" reality. Perhaps this sort of deceptive doubletalk works well on Israels Jews, it doesn`t work at all on anybody else, except to confirm the suspicion that Israeli policy is pointlessly deceptive, and that Israel thinks themselves so clever as to confound the goyim by words alone. In cases where national secirity is not involved, honesty is the best policy. Being direct and truthful with no attempt to deceive will earn respect even from ones enemies. The opposite course will achieve the opposite effect. |
