Back in 1964 we (I was a life-long Republican until December 2000) suffered a devastating defeat.
The House minority leader was defeated by a democrat.
Still, we had a broad spectrum of Republicans to rebuild from.
Liberals like Mark Hatfield, and Lowell Wickert and Edward Brooks, moderates like Jerry Ford and Ev Dirksen, and principled Conservatives like Margaret Chase Smith and Barry Goldwater.
Today the republican party is again in defeat.
But it has nothing but the lunatic fringe and former southern democrats to build upon.
Coleman must have finally figured out that not even the partisan majority of the Supreme Court would dare appoint him Senator.
Why does Haaretz ignore the many democrat senators and representatives?
Why does it ignore the FACT that a democrat who is Jewish beat Norm Coleman?
Why does Haaretz consider it necessary to cast the election as a `good` Republican Jew losing to an `evil` democrat . . . who meets Ariel Atias`s definition of a second class Jew? |
