There is a good reason to view Army service for women critically. Anyone who has done "Toranut Shabbat" may have seen the Commanding Officer and his clerk keeping company. And yes, that is the same Commanding Officer who brings the wife and kids on the "Fun Days" the base gives to its officers and men. But we don`t talk about that do we?

I realize that currently there are very stiff rules that regulate the contact between men and women in the Army, yet . . . if I read this paper`s accounts, many women in Zahal are reticent about sending complaints regarding sexual harrassement.

Other than that, in these days the files are kept in "the computer", and many tasks have been rationalized. Some young people take their examinations with the result of a letter telling then "thank you very much, but . . .". Indeed, there are religious young men who want to be part of the Army, and find that their fastidiousness doesn`t suit Zahal.

Rabbi Ronski knows of what he speaks.
