| i hope this works out. The unnecessary suffering caused by roadblocks has been a sore point. It has made Israel look brutal and ruthless. Two characteristics which any civilized nation would not have associated with it. Ruth, is compassion for the misery of others, and sorrow for one`s own faults. Judaism, the world`s oldest religion, has long incorporated ruth as an important part of Yom Kippur. To be ruthless is to be without ruth. To be brutal is to act as befitting a brute. To be grossly ruthless. These are not characteristics I associated with Israel before the occupation turned into the expansion of settlements 30 years ago. The occupation has been as corrosive of Israeli society as it has been for the Palestinians. It is good to see Israel acting with more ruth, and more civility. It is most hopeful to behold. |
