Hila Raz, Haaretz Correspondent, and Haaretz Service: Peres to Saudi King: Meet me in Jerusalem, or in Riyadh
Talkback
Title:Of course. They walked out to protest . . .
Name:Joseph
City: State: United States
the fact that Peres was elected President in a way that is deeply offensive to the Iranian regime`s concept of how a President should be elected: He was elected by members of parliament who were themselves elected by voters.

In Iran, no one deserves the title "President" unless they win a sham election scripted by an authoritarian regime for the purpose of justifying censorship, cultural repression, and extraordinary intolerance of a kind inconsistent with interfaith meetings. The same Iranian delegates who walked out will probably be in the audience cheering for their fake President when he is inaugurated by their unelected, illegitimate, and now entirely-discredited "Supreme Leader."
