It is difficult being a citizen of most Arab nations.
One must be careful what one says, does, or even thinks.
Contrary to popular mythology there is an immense Democratic impetus in the Arab world just as we have seen there is one in Iran.
And there are very many Arabs who desire a degree of political and personal freedom they have been compelled to go to the west to have.
(or Bahrain).
Anyone who monitors the Arab world`s press understands just how understated the coverage of recent events in Iran was.
There are few, if any, dictatorships, or totalitarian monarchies, which wish to see the concept of democracy pass beyond the puppet level.
But come to think of it there are few ruling plutocracies and oligarchies in the `democratic` world which want to see that either.
What would happen if the United States had a government which represented the `people` instead of those rich enough to buy two parties?
I wish the disgruntled Arab bloggers well.
But I cannot offer much hope. |
