| It was well known from the beginning that Lieberman was not a credible candidate for FM. There are two things that impacted on his selection. (1) by far the most important, Bibi wanted complete and undisputed control as Israels PM. He needed Lieberman for this, (2) Bibi did not expect to need a credible FM. He had no plans for any delicate international negotiations. Now, here we are. Israel needs delicate international negotiations as never before and Bibi still needs Lieberman now for the same reason he needed him previously. In fact, Lieberman won`t have any real effect on anything, other than to make Bibi look somewhat foolish. It is unlikely that this government will survive the year anyway, unless Kadima joins. Of course Kadima has their own problems right now. Perhaps an adjustment can be made to deliver Kadima without Livni. This is Bibis dream scenario. |
