Talkback
Title:About opinions of Lebanese, Syrian and Egyptian Jews

This talkback is very interesting.
When Tsahal entered Lebanon in 1982 I was surprised that the Israeli Government thaught that peace was possible through negociation with B.Gemayel. Everybody knows the end of the story. If this Government had asked their opinions to Israelis adults of Lebanese origin he would have learned that no group in Lebanon can represent the state, because if he did so he would be opposed by all other groups. The Maronite group itself was not homogeneous : Gemayel was one thing, Chamoun, another thing, Frangie another one, and so on. This is still true.
I think that the Israeli Government as well as the Israeli citizens should listen very carefully to what the Jews from Lebanon, Syria and Egypt have to say about their former countries.
I am always surprised of how much European born scholars of Islam and the Arab world can err. One has to be born and have lived among Arabs and Muslims in their countries to understand the Arab and Muslim mentalities.
