| Although many millions went down the Madoff drain, the saddest part of this crime is the damage done to the Palm Beach Jewish community. Palm Beach is historically and generationally anti-Semitic. In fact there is still at least one club - The Everglades Club that does not allow Jews membership. The small Jewish community on the island has spent a generation fighting to be accepted here and with Madoff`s crime he provided the Everglades people, the cream of old money Palm Beach, the ammunition for their smirking, nose holding brand of hatred. Now they can all say, "see we told you so". This is the saddest and greatest damage and for this alone he deserves to rot in jail for the rest of his sorry life. |
