| The secular Supreme Court cannot interpret the halacha (Jewish law). Halacha is quite clear that a non-Jew does not have credibility with respect to Kashrut (except if he there are severe financial reprecussions if he violates kashrut). This is reasonable--there are lots of stories of nonreligious Israelis misrepresenting the kashrut of an item because they know that the secular legal system will give them a slap on the wrist if they are caught. Every month, the Chief Rabbinate publishes a list establishments with fraudulent kashrut certificates or which have violated kashrut rules in an eggregious fashion. |
