| olmert had offered abbas gaza and some 97% of the west bank, yet abbas refused. the palestinians and their arab supporters refuse to renounce the so-called right of return. it has been reported that the obama administration was surprised to find this out. the americans can pressure israel, but they have no means to pressure the palestinians. even if there were a freeze on settlement building, the peace process would be dead. iran and syria would keep arming and financing hamas. as long as they do, the chances for peace are essentially nil. |
