Obviously the policy of blockading Gaza in response to the rocket fire on civilians, and kidnapping and killing of Israeli soldier is working. If Hamas does not release Shalit, their popularity will continue to plunge, and they will be overthrown.
So there is no reason to let anything but humanitarian aid into Gaza. Opening the border with a Hamas government in charge of Gaza is simply a recepie for more war. They will simply attack the crossings, let Egypt open their border. When Hamas moderate and releases Shalit, Israel can open the border. Or, if they don`t do that, the people of Gaza will over through them. It is not like Iran where there is oil money, if they lose all popular support, they will be toast. It is only a mater of time. It is like what happened with Iran, things that seems permanent can become weak and disappear in an instant. The parties that reject a peace deal are much closer to defeat than is commonly thought. |
