The mullahs got away with this for 444 days in 1979-80 - releasing the US embassy hostages only upon Ronald Reagan`s inauguration, knowing full well he wasn`t going to put up with them the way the dithering Jimmy Carter had.
A pity the EU and Gordon Brown seem more cut from Carter`s thin cloth. For heaven`s sake, it`s an act of war! Read the mullahs the riot act. Give `em 12 hours to comply. And leave `em wondering what`d be coming next.
Just make sure they can never, ever again take UK, US, or anyone else`s embassy staff hostage.
