At the end of the day, Israel is a tiny nation with 6 million inhabitants (that would be 0.1% of the earth`s population). Worse, it is of any authentic interest to only 0.2% percent of the world`s population. For the rest of us, Israel can only matter as an abstraction, or a projection, or a delusion, or an irritant.
That it can be no more than this last in the end is becoming all too apparent. If something so small tries to grab and hold the world`s attention for such a prolonged period, it can`t work out well.
It`s cruel to say, but Israel needs to learn its place. It`s one of the Honduras, the Luxembourgs, the Togos of the world. It`s not a big piece of the pie -- and its attempts to act as if the situation were otherwise just don`t work out. If you get our attention, we`ll tell you exactly what you are going to do. Your own opinion on the matter is of little consequence. That may or may not be the way it should be, but that`s the way it is.
