| Many Israelis simply live in the westbank because the houses are cheaper there. At the same time, we hear a lot of whining about decreasing percentage of Jews living in the Galilee. That`s ridiculous! If the politicians were really serious about their arguments, the solution would be obvious: Stop any subsidies for construction and living in the westbank, including the very expensive IDF presence. If right wing organisations want people to settle there, they should pay the whole bill, including the security costs. And then, Israel should use the money that is saved by this for implementing an incentive program for building in Israel, including generous tax excemptions, and infrastructure projects. This would also have a huge stimulus effect, which sure is a good idea in this time of economic recession. And lots of "settlers" would opt for living in Israel again, leaving only the hardcore fanatics in the Westbank, with lots of empty houses for their kids. Voila! |
