Any suggestion that Israel did anything `wrong` during the War of Independence is to be suppressed unless it is from a blatantly anti-Israeli person.

That the Jewish Agency, the Israeli Government, and the pro-Israeli press admitted to the atrocity of Dir Yasin is not to be accepted as long as it is pointed out that only a minority of Jewish Palestinians pursued the ethnic cleansing.

That none less than David ben Gurion admitted having to push all Arabs out of areas essential for maintaining logistics and communications, or to establish security of such, is to be suppressed by Haaretz.

Why? These things happened. The Israel of 45 years ago did not feel it necessary to suppress these truths. That the Israel of today needs to lie about what the first generation was able to be honest says much.

The Israelis of today probably could not have survived in 1947-48. The Israelis then were honest because they HAD TO BE. And that honesty served them well.

Why lie today?
