If losing homes during the 1948 war (started by the Arabs) is the worst thing that ever happened to them, by all means they should remember that. I do have a small problem with the fact that they celebrate it on May 15, which is the birth of Israel. The major population displacements took place weeks and months later. So it is clear that the central feature of Nakba is not the loss of property, but the existance of Israel.

Still, democracy should prevail. What is to stop Israelis from jumping into those sad Arab parades, and beat drums, play trumpets, dance wildly, turning melancholy into merriment? Streets are public, majority rules, no?
