Shalit was on a routine patrol that night, not looking for action. While he was in uniform and all the risk that entails, there is no comparison. All of the Palestinians in Israeli prisons were arrested upon warrant, and given due process. Their crimes were not littering, or jaywalking.
I agree with the sentiment that `one man`s terrorist is another`s freedom fighter`. The US did not win the colonies from King George in a game of checkers. However, there is persistent difference between Jewish and Arab fighters which was clearly demonstrated in Cast Lead. Jews protect their women and children. Who was sent out to meet IDF at the gate? Iranians. Who ran back, ditched their uniforms and fought behind their women and children?
