Shavit is absolutely correct when he says that Obama is 180 degrees the opposite of Bush: Smart, careful, thoughtful, sensible, responsible.
Bush would have undoubtedly blasted Iran for its actions, but what would it have gotten him? Absolutely nothing, except for the usual pats on the back from Israel`s hapless leaders.
Obama, on the other hand, said this week that he will not base U.S. policy on the whims of foreign countries (meaning Israel). That is a responsible leader.
Obama recognizes that the ayatollahs are not going away (at least not yet), and so he rightly leaves the demagoguery to less responsible countries (Israel) while focusing on his strategy of rapprochement with Iran. This strategy is based on the idea of forcing Iran to change through dialogue, not through threats and intimidation, which is all the hapless Bush and Israel know.
And lastly, the title is so stupid as to induce tears of laughter at Shavit`s simple-mindedness. A president does not twitter. |
