The Palestinians could have a state in two weeks if they really wanted one and embraced reality, but instead they keep saying no. There is the rub. The state would be in Gaza and on over 90% of the West Bank. They would control immigration to their country, and could declare a ?right of return? to the new state of ?Palestine? if they wanted. Israel would allow either a raised highway or trench tunnel linking the West Bank and Gaza. It would be contiguous (non of the ?Bantustan lie that is so often repeated). They would have a police force, but no heavy weapons. Israel would have free access to their air space, just as the Russians do to that of several of the states which arose from the collapse of the soviet union.
Would it be everything they want? No, but it would be a state. Of course, they still can?t take Yes for an answer. What magic do they imagine is going to happen in two years?
