If Ahmedinejad is threatening to put the Revolutionary Guard onto the street he does not have many options left if any. It will also be interesting to see if any of the clerics who do not support Ahmedinejad have any influence over the Revolutionary Guard and if they can split them like the political elite are split. And will the Iranian Army proper stand idly by whilst their mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers are massacred.
I believe that this is just a threat a serious one but one that cannot be delivered. Otherwise it would have been put in place last Saturday the day after the Grand leader had delivered his sermon.
The Iranian regime knows the manner it came to power, and using the same techniques as the Shah of Iran to remain in power will doom the theocracy.
Interestingly Iranians do not need to demonstrate on the streets to make their voices heard. Mousavi hasn`t called for it yet, but a General Strike would be a natural response to this. |
