| stories of Jewish catholic priests barred from aliyah are known. This is really a shame that in Israel a formal definition of Jew is left only to the religion, and if you don`t fulfill it, ethnic descent is meaningless. Ethnically I am half-Jew. Still, as a catholic worshipper I am not considered in Israel as entitled to immigrate under the Law of Return, no matter how would I support your country. Taking into account that it was mainly the secularists, and not religious activists who fought for and created Israel, this is really a shame. |
