| There are a number of American spies who betrayed their country and were caught. Aldrich Ames, John Walker, and others. They will never see the light of day again. In spite of this, they do not whine, sue the government, or otherwise make a spectacle of themselves. Then we have Jonathan Pollard. He will likely be released in six more years in spite of his life sentence. There are those who think that Pollard should get special treatment because he is a Jew. Making these demands does not help Pollards cause, nor does it help Judaism in general. Pollard should be a man and pay for his crimes without whining. Israel is not in a position to demand Pollards release, nor have they ever been. Currently, as Israel is rejecting Americas long held position of a settlement construction freeze, the timing is not right to remind Americans that Israel employs paid spies against them. This is a hostile act and it merits a hostile reply. |
