| What is happening in Israel is just the reverse of the courage we see publically displayed against the regime of Ahmadinejad in Iran. The last time Israel spoke collectively with any moral conscience was in the TA mass demonstration against Israel`s complicity in the Sabra/Chatilla massacre. In Israel, zionism has been usurped by religio/nationalist fanatics who have turned it into a racist movement. The religious establishment has atrophied and has become the main perpetrator of hatred and racism toward non-Jews. And the majority of the secular population is not moved because they lack any sense of empathy for others and they have no faith in their leaders whom they have come to expect to be corrupt and self interested. And self interest has become the most salient characteristic of Israelis today.If anyone other than the settlers were to move toward peace, the colonists, pawned by the governemtn would and likely will take to the streets but they will be more like the Boers than Iran. |
