Bibi has not even lifted one foot off the ground to take the first step to peace. Peace means offering the Palestinians more than a splintered, powerless toy state in exchange for all of our demands and no compromise. It means being imaginative and taking risks on both sides and putting aside the fortress mentality in which Bibi is stuck and is busy spoonfeeding to all of us. It means making the Palestinians an offer they cannot refuse instead of making them an offer they will not accept in a thousand years.
David Grossman said it well: no one in the present government is looking at even the beginnings of peace as it would really be. No one can imagine beyond not taking any more land and taking down checkpoints. No one can imagine Palestinians as wanting peace and not simply eager to rain Qassams on Tel Aviv. |
