| Netanyahus speech was simply the first step in placing a multi-layered defense against Obamas peace initiative. As always, any offers which Netanyahu made were in bad faith and meant to counter crys of Israeli intrasigence. The standard response by Israel to any determined peace making effort is to give ground, ever so slowly, while continuing the provocations of settlement building and placing restrictions upon the Palestinians. Israels position is that the Palestinian people belong to them and Israel can do with them and to them what they will. Time is always on Israels side, since Israeli politicians always favor settlement building over peace, but American politicians are usually "disinterested" in the nuts and bolts of Israels expansionist policies. There is no real world connection between what Israeli politicians say and what they do. Words are merely a way to avoid or put off taking action. Words are meant to deceive and placate. |
