Avi Issacharoff, Haaretz Correspondent and Haaretz Service: 'Hamas foiled plot to assassinate Carter in Gaza'
Talkback
Title:How divided is Hamas..?
Name:Stephen.
City: Geneve.State: Switzerland
We have seen divisions in Hamas.
Maybe a new new hardliner faction is emerging.
Blaming Al Qaeda may be a ploy.
On the other hand the hardliners could well be beholden to the Al Qaeda/Taliban movement.
Mr.Meshal talks to Mr.Carter.
Damascus tells Mr.Meshal to reconcile with Fatah.
It sounds messy, that is to western audiences, then again its normal daily fare in the ME.
Mr.Carter may well be a target, however not by Hamas or Hezbollah.
Mr.Carter is definitely a target for Al Qaeda/Taliban.
Like Ms. Bhutto, the Twin Towers,Nairobi, etc etc etc.
It seems that this movement has no friends, especially in Pakistan.
Its up to the US Secret Service and its duty to protect this errant ex president.
For the moment, Mr.Carter has become a stable messenger for Mr.Obama, never mind that he serves as a postman.
Gutsy fellow, he is.
