| Some Israelis seem to think that, throughout history, any land that has been trod by a Jewish foot, is Jewish land. Other Israelis seem to think that any place that is inhabited by Palestinians, that place is also Jewish land. Together, these view points make for a busy settlement program. Of course, the settlement program is no compatible with the peace process. When we see Israel talking peace while not even pausing in their settlement expansion, we can rightfully question their sincerity and their motives. By now, it is apparent that Israel will not seek peace on their own. They must have peace forced on them from the outside. If Obama cannot do it, then we must wait for a devestating war of WMD to do the job. Either way, the Arab peace initiative, in its present form, is dead. Even Obama, on his best day, will not seek to evacuate every single Jewish settlement from the west bank. This is the only real compromise which will come into play. |
