and this is the year 2009, NOT 1948 or 1967. times, and interests, have changed considerably. as for hamas, it will inevitably fade away if indeed the palestinian state was created in an equitable manner. it`s popularity, which has NEVER exceeded that of fatah, is directly influenced by israeli policy and aggression. israel is it`s greatest "supporter". to assume that peaceful relations would occur overnight is ridiculous. no doubt it would be be rough at first, but given their own sovereign state, the return of their occupied land, freedom of movement, the removal of the settlements from their midst, and an end to the oppression, humiliation, and the economic isolation imposed upon them; the vast majority of palestinians would gladly embrace the prospect of peace with israel...and the israelis and palestinians can live side by side in a symbiotic relationship has been proven by history. as for those on "both" sides who would work to undermine peaceful relations?; their numbers would dwindle for lack of "cause" in a relatively short time, leaving only a "core" of hardline extremists who would end up being shunned and viewed as an enemy even by their own. |
