| It was Israel, not just PM Rabin, (may his memory be of blessing) who signed Oslo. It was Israel, not just PM Barak, who did all he could at Camp David and Taba. "Palestinian state" was a standard, accepted issue signed by PM Netanyahu in his first term, at Wye Plantation, and so it by PM Sharon at the Road Map, and by PM Olmert at Annapolis. Why suddenly return to the-earth is-flat? Why suddenly make a fuss about what Israel has signed and said and suffered for and wrestled with for fifteen years under half as many Prime Ministers. And just because there are so many right-wingers in a Bar-Ilan university hall, does Gideon Levy get all excited about the mentioning of "Palestinian state" as if it was a grand, new, fabulous concession that opens a crack of hope? I am scanning through all the aformentioned documents signed by Israel, and nowhere is "Palestinian state" either ommitted or a taboo. What`s the big deal? What`s the fuss? |
