Ross is a neocon who held key positions on the ME under both Bushes and Carter. He bears major responsibility for the failure of the Arab-Israeli peace process and was the chief U.S. envoy to the Mid-East from 1993 to 2001.
Aaron David Miller, who also is Jewish, was one of Ross` subordinates during the critical 1999-2000 Palestinian negotiations. Miller complained that under Ross the American delegation was so pro-Israel that the U.S. lost credibility.
Ross and Miller both wrote books. The difference is that Miller resigned from the state dept and returned to academmia before he wrote his 4 books.
Ross`s recent book expounding his neocon views including the possible use of force against Iran disqualifies him from active diplomatic duty in U.S.-Iranian negotiations where he would have to represent Obama`s policy. |
