I am inclined to beleive that the peace Natanyaho is advocating is too distant. There was a real chance when late Rabin and King Hussein were working on a lasting solution for this conflict with remarkable compromises from both sides. That chance was missed.
The Palestinean State proposed by Natanyaho is not viable and would be self-destructive. Hence we are back to square one.
Personally, I think the Zionist movement came to the middle east with European mentality with Europe`s History in mind. Wars have changed history there within short times. However, the middle east is different. Coming with a heavy hand and with such oppressive measures might work with slaves but not with the people of this region. If you ask any Arab here, he would tell you the crusaders lasted 200 years in this region, but they did not last. I read about the early generation of Jews from the middle east who preferred soft handed dealing in the region but they did not have the final say. |
