| Akiva Eldar, you could learn much from Rabbi Akiva about what it means to stand up for Jewish values. Jews all over have prayed for the return to the Holy Land and the rebuilding of Jerusalem for almost 2000 years since the Romans sent us into exile. Even before then, the Jewish people had to fight for their values against heavy outside pressure (e.g., Hanukkah story and the Greeks). It took courage and strength, not buckling before the other nations. And another lesson: it takes great wisdom to compare a situation to other past situations, and many people stumble in incorrect comparisons. For instance: Israel is nothing like colonialism. In fact, Israel can`t be compared to any other nation. The sad reality is that we try to hard to behave and compare ourselves to other nations. |
