Neither side will bend. It is impossible to believe that Netanyahu will allow another Gaza in the West Bank, nor the creation of a Palestinian state until a list of concessions he knows are dead on arrival at the PALS door.
For their part, HAMAS will never recognize Israel. The continuous settlement activity, plus the chopping up of the West Bank, Jerusalem, etc, will negate any Abbas approval. So, just where are we? Exactly where Netanyahu wants to be. As long as he can have 1 to 2 years to finish the barrier/wall/fence on Palestinian claimed land and continue to build out existing settlements to provide for "normal" growth of an illegal situation, he really does not care. The USA is viewed as a bunch of gullible "jerks". That, plus and intense Israeli dislike of President Obama will cement the fact that nothing happens. It will be intersting to see if the US shuts off the money spigot. It has been running for some 60 plus years with no results. |
