Like it or not, Iran had taken great strides toward democracy. It is true the supreme leader has the final word on almost everything but this stems from the religious authority he commands among the faithfuls.
Iran is set to enhance its prestige and influence in the region because there isn`t any competitor in the Arab or Muslim world cmpete on the relevant issues that concern the ordinary man in the street in Arab countries. This trend is likely to continue in the absence of a solution to the palestinian problem. This will invitably curtail margin of maneuver and policy options of pro western countries in the region and ultimately establish Iran as the regional super power it aspires to be. A nightmare for most Arab leaders? yes...can they do anything about it? very unlikely! |
