| There are only three ways for this little drama to play out. The first, and least likely is that Israel gets their way and Obama capitulates on the settlement issue. This would be a major humiliation for Obama and would end his peacemaking efforts in the ME. The second possibility is that Israel capitulates in good faith and freezes all settlement construction. The third and most likley scenario is that Israel refuses to concede and Obama raises the stakes by reviewing all American aid to Israel. Obama will go donw this road as far as necessary. His credibility and his historic presidency hang in the balance. He would forever be known as the president that got stared down by Israel. This is what we have been waiting for all these years. The fact that the Israeli people are mostly in favor of backing Netanyahu is icing on the cake. |
