I do love the way in which the press constantly tries to inflate Ross` role in this US Administration, and how the Israeli press breathlessly reports on his every utterance.
Reuters: "U.S. envoy Dennis Ross"
State Dept: "Let me be clear, he`s not an envoy. He will not be negotiating."
Reuters: "Ross, who is leading the U.S. diplomatic effort to engage Iran on a series of issues"
No, William J Burns has that job.
Ross` role is to look over Burns` shoulder, offering advice to Clinton as and when needed.
As in.... Washington Post: "Although Dennis Ross will take a broad strategic look at the region in his new post of State Department adviser, senior officials stress that Burns is the address for Iran policy." |
